Silvering the Baby

An old magickal tradition of years ago was to place a silver coin in the hand of a new born baby. This was so the baby would have prosperity throughout their life…


Another variation of this was to give a silver spoon to the baby to bring luck and good fortune.

Another old tradition was never to give a purse as a gift unless a coin was placed into it first, ensuring that it would never be empty. This was known as hanselling the purse.  As long as the hansel was in the purse, it would attract more money to it! Silver and gold are used a great deal in magic because of their various qualities and capacities to absorb spiritual energies.

Magick is much more a part of our lives than we are led to believe.
